Art historians strike oil in ruins of Buddhist temple

Lamented at the time as a disastrous case of cultural vandalism, the destruction of two huge Buddha statues in Afghanistan has unearthed a remarkable discovery. Hidden behind the statues was a series of caves decorated with the murals scientists say are the earliest examples of oil paintings.
