Microsoft appeals new record EU fine

Microsoft says it is appealing against another record fine – this one 899 million euros – imposed by the European Commission because Microsoft charged rival software-makers high prices for information they need to make compatible products. The US giant said it was seeking clarity from the EU’s Court of First Instance. The Commission said in response that it was confident the fine was “legally sound”. It said the American company had defied a 2004 order from Brussels to provide information to competitors on reasonable terms.
