Fresh clashes between police and opposition protesters in Kenya have left at least two people dead.

Trouble flared nationwide as demonstrators defied a ban on ralliles against President Mwai Kibaki’s disputed re-election.

The fatal shootings occurred in the western opposition stronghold of Kisumu. In Nairobi, security forces wielding batons fired teargas and live rounds in the air.

US ambassador to Kenya, Michael Ranneberger, is quoted in a newspaper interview today as saying that it is “not possible to say, with certainty, who won because the process was not transparent.”
EU observers have said the vote was “flawed.”

More than 600 people have died in post-election violence.
