With bloodshed continuing in Kenya, President Mwai Kibaki is coming under increasing international pressure to investigate the election that kept him in power. The opposition believe it was rigged and foreign observers say it was at least suspicious. Up to 200 people are feared to have been killed.

The unrest, fuelled in part by inter-tribal tensions, has spread across what has been regarded as one of Africa’s most stable democracies. The US and European powers have urged Kenyan authorities to review the election.

In some areas there has been panic-buying and business leaders are equally concerned about the effect on tourism, one of the country’s biggest industries. Already several western nations have advised their citizens against travelling to Kenya.
