Swiss TV campaign to discourage immigrants

world news

| |

Switzerland is funding a TV campaign in Africa to try to discourage would-be migrants from trying to seek their fortunes in Europe. The advert has already been aired in Cameroon and Nigeria. Eduard Gnesa at the Swiss Federal Office for Immigration said: “We know that most immigrants from Nigeria and Cameroon can’t give any reasons to claim asylum. They then end up in illegal situations: the black market and exploitation. That’s what we want to prevent.”

The media campaign, funded by Switzerland, is being organised by the Geneva-based International Organisation for Migration.
