As the talks got underway in Annapolis, violence erupted in the Palestinian West Bank.
One demonstrator was killed and more were wounded as protestors denounced the peace talks, and slammed Mahmoud Abbas as a traitor.
The Palestinian President had banned any mass demonstrations in the Fatah-run Palestinian territory.
In Gaza, under Hamas rule, the people were also in the streets.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh told the crowd that no one had the right to barter away Palestinian rights.
As Abbas attempts to negotiate a separate Palestinian state, the division between the factions could not be any clearer.
