Abuse continues at Casa Pia says former director

The former director of a Portuguese children’s home at the centre of a sex scandal says abuse is still taking place there. Catalina Pestana, who retired from the post in May, made the claim in the Portuguese magazine Sol. A number of high-profile personalities have been accused of involvement in paedophile offences at Casa Pia.

Pestana, who took over the school after the scandal erupted in 2002, says she passed on information to the chief prosecutor in the case. He has confirmed he received a new complaint from Pestana and that her claim was being studied. The accused include another former Casa Pia director, a TV presenter, and an ex-diplomat. It is alleged the school for disadvantaged children had been the centre of a paedophile network from the 1970s.
