Al Qaeda has urged Muslims to fight the United States and its allies around the world. This time, the organisation’s second-in-command Ayman Zawahri praised groups fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, North Africa, Somalia and Chechnya. But he also focussed on Pakistan, urging people there to avenge the killing of a militant cleric at the Red Mosque in July.

The 80-minute-long compilation is the third high-profile al Qaeda video aired to mark the anniversary of the September 11 attacks in 2001. It includes what analysts say is old audio tape of hijackers’ leader Mohammed Atta. He is heard speaking to passengers onboard one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center in New York.
