Russian government quits; Putin takes control

world news

| |

Russia’s President Putin has accepted the resignation of his government, allowing him, analysts say, to put his own man in the Kremlin next year. Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov said “upcoming significant political events” demanded the President had full freedom of decision-making. President Putin is prevented by the constitution from seeking a third term as Russian leader. He’s now expected to appoint a new Prime Minister, who will become the leading candidate to succeed him.
