Diana remembered at memorial service, 10 years after her death

Everyone can remember where they were and what they were doing the day Princess Diana died, 10 years ago today. The bleak motorway bridge in Paris is a shrine of sorts every last day of August when flowers appear near the spot where her car left the road. Diana, Princess of Wales, was killed along with Dodi al-Fayed and driver Henri Paul in circumstances many people still find hard to explain. The sense of sorrow remains; less hard to understand for such an iconic figure.

“As many people in the world, probably everyone still wonders kind of, what actually happened, and you know, just a tremendous sense of loss and regret about such a beautiful woman being struck down so early in her life,” said one well-wisher, expressing her feelings in Paris.

This 10th anniversary is being marked by a memorial service at the Royal Military Chapel at London’s Wellington Barracks. Attending will be 500 guests including Diana’s former husband, heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles, and their two sons.

Not attending will be Charles’s new wife Camilla, whom Diana famously described as being the “third person” in her marriage, nor Mohammed al-Fayed, who continues to maintain that his son died in a plot to prevent Diana marrying a Muslim.
