We live in an ocean of noise. Car, trucks, trains and planes make the urban environment extremely noise polluted. And it’s doing us harm say scientists. It raises our blood pressure and can even interfere with children learning to read. What can we do about it? Researchers across Europe are looking at ways of reducing urban noise in cities with new materials, redesigned engine components and traffic management plans.
