Initial tests for foot and nmouth disease at two suspected sites in England have proved negative. Three kilometre protection zones were set up around a farm in Kent and an amusement park in Surrey after fears that cattle and sheep there had been infected.

The farm, which is home to around 300 dairy cows, became the first suspected case outside Surrey, where two confirmed outbreaks have been identified. The risks of foot and mouth spreading outside Surrey are now described as “very low” according to Britain’s chief vet.

The government has said it will ease nationwide restrictions on the transportation of animals, although a ban on British meat and dairy exports remains in EU states and other countries.
