Huge fine for British Airways

corporate

| |

British Airways has been fined 180 million Euros for anti-competitive activity over ticket pricing. Britain’s consumer watchdog, the Office of Fair Trading, says BA has admitted colluding with rival Virgin Atlantic over the setting of transatlantic passenger fuel surcharges. The investigation covered the period from mid-2004 to January 2006. Virgin has not been penalized. It was granted immunity after it reported the deal with BA to the UK competition authority. The UK and the US Department of Justice have been investigating the case for more than a year. British Airways says it has entered into a plea agreement with Washington over the affair. The amount of the American fine on BA is to be announced in the near future.
