Next stop Europe – migrants put pressure on Malta

Malta’s long tradition of welcoming foreigners to its shores in the Mediterranean is coming under increasing strain. Lying between Italy and Libya, Malta has become a target for refugees fleeing war in Africa. But now, the most densely populated country in the EU warns it is nearly full to bursting. In Mediterraneans, we take a look at how Malta has become a new, and reluctant, gateway into “fortress Europe.”
