The enquiry into the latest bombing attacks in Britain has gone global with the arrest in Brisbane, Australia, of a doctor who is a suspect in the investigation, and another person. In all five trainee doctors are among the nine people currently being questioned, two of which have been identified and were trained in Iraq and Jordan.

One of the identified men is the badly-burned survivor of the attempted car bombing of Glasgow airport, Bilal Abdullah. He is now being treated at the Alexandra hospital in nearby Paisley, where he worked. These latest failed attacks in Britain have highlighted two new trends that will worry the security forces.

False papers may be being used to enable would-be terrorists to get around tougher immigration rules, and for the first time attacks are being carried out that are not home-grown. It is believed the bombing attempts in London and Glasgow this weekend were all executed by well-educated terrorists from abroad whose only intention when entering Britain was to kill and maim.
