The winners of the 2007 Asturias award for technical and scientific research have been announced in Oviedo, Spain. The award is shared by two biologists. Peter Lawrence is a British scientist well known for his work in genetic development and is a world authority on developmental biology through his studies at Cambridge University’s Laboratory of Molecular Biology.
Gines Morata was born in Rioja, Spain in 1945. He is also renowned for his work in developmental genetics and he’s being acknowledged for his study of biological architecture, work to reveal the mechanism of organ regeneration at the cellular level.
The award carries a prize of 50,000 Euros and a sculpture by renowned artist Joan Miro. The winners were announced by jury president Julio Rodriguez Villanueva.
