After world leaders clinch a deal on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Africa is today’s main topic for discussion at the G8.Yesterday, summit host, Chancellor Angela Merkel was determined to reach an agreement on reducing the CO2 pollutants which scientists say cause global warming; the fact that she failed to get the US and Russia to sign up to specified cuts has not worried her. Later the G8 leaders talked long into the night about specifics on aid to Africa.

Sources say they are close to agreeing a 45 billion Euro package to fight AIDS and other killer diseases. But in general they are expected to recommit themselves to pledges made at the 2005 summit when they said they would double funding by 2010.
