Former Bosnian Serb general Zravko Tolimir has been delivered to the Hague war crimes tribunal in the Netherlands. He was flown from the Bosnian capital Sarajevo after spending the night in a NATO base near the city. Arrested on Thursday on the border between Serbia and Bosnia’s Serb Republic, he was driven to the court complex where he is due to face a first hearing on Monday.

For now he has been admitted to the prison hospital. Ill, possibly with cancer, he has been put under medical observation for the next two days. Third on the court’s most wanted list, Tolimir was placed just behind fomer Bosnian Serb Army commander Ratko Mladic and the equally elusive wartime Bosnian Serb political leader Radovan Karadzic. Indicted for war crimes by the Hague tribunal two years ago, Tolimir stands accused – alongside Mladic – over the 1995 Srebrenica massacre of some 8,000 Bosnian Muslims.
