US and Spain relations ease, but Cuba an issue

The US Secretary of State, Condoleeza Rice has been to Spain, on what is being seen as a bridge-building visit, after Spanish troops were withdrawn from Iraq in 2004. Her meeting with King Juan Carlos was a measure of the importance of the trip, which is the highest level American visit to Spain since relations cooled over Iraq. But there are still differences, especially over Spain’s attitude to Castro’s Cuba.
