Bosnian Serb general being taken to The Hague

A Bosnian Serb general accused of genocide is being transferred to the war crimes tribunal in the Hague after being arrested yesterday. Zdravko Tolimir was a close aide of the Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladic, one of the top fugitives of the war crimes court.

Tolimir is expected to arrive in the Netherlands later today. A heavy police presence has been reported at the airport of Banja Luka, the capital of the Serb Republic. Officials have confirmed that Tolimir’s transfer to the Hague is underway, amid reports he is in bad health, possibly with cancer.He was arrested at a hotel on the border between Serbia and Bosnia’s Serb Republic.

The genocide charges relate to the 1992-95 Bosnia war.
