Iran and US to discuss security in Iraq

world news

| |

As the death toll in Iraq goes on rising, the United States is seeking fresh ways to bring the situation under control. Sunday’s violence left over 60 people dead, at least 50 of them killed in a suicide truck bombing in the northern town of Makhmour. Dozens more were injured when the vehicle exploded near the local office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.

A group linked to al Qaeda meanwhile said it was holding three US soldiers, missing since their patrol was attacked. Against this background, the US and Iran have agreed to hold talks on security in Iraq.
