world news

Finland’s new ruling coalition has been sworn in at a ceremony in Helsinki – it is the most female-dominated cabinet in the world, with 12 out of 20 ministers women.

The new government takes a slight shift to the right as centre party leader Prime minister Matti Vanhanen stays on, joined by seven of his compatriots, along with eight members of the conservative National Coalition Party.

It put forward its chairman Jyrki Katainen as finance minister. He has said his aim is to boost employment and keep the state budget under control in a country facing rising health an social security costs due to an ageing population.
