Sixty pensioners die in Russian blaze

world news

| |

More than sixty people died at an old people’s home in Russia after firefighters took an hour to reach the blazing building. It is believed the fire exits had also been locked. The local acting governor says his immediate priority, before an investigation, is to provide for the injured.

There is no fire station in Kamyshevatskaya where the fire happened. The nearest fire services were 50 kilometres away. Most of the people who lived in the home were asleep when the blaze started at one o’clock in the morning. It is reported that medical staff were not at their posts and did not immediately raise the alarm.
