Former Iraqi Vice President hanged

world news

| |

Iraqi officials have said the country’s former vice president Taha Yassin Ramadan was hanged this morning for crimes against humanity. Last week, an Iraqi appeals court upheld a High Court decision to hang Ramadan, a close associate of executed former President Saddam Hussein. Ramadan was sentenced to life in prison last November for his part in the massacre of 148 Shi’ites following a botched assassination attempt against Saddam in the village of Dujail in 1982. But the tariff was later raised to death by hanging. A year before the US-led invasion four years ago, Ramadan famously suggested that Saddam and US President George W Bush settle their differences in a duel using weapons of their choice.
