The head of the UN nuclear watchdog is making a landmark visit to North Korea. Mohamed ElBaradei is in Pyongyang for talks on how to implement a nuclear disarmament agreement. He told reporters ahead of the trip that it was a very complex process, playing down any suggestion there might be rapid progress.

A new deal in February gave access to the International Atomic Energy Agency, which was expelled from the country in 2002. Under the terms of the agreement, North Korea has agreed to shut down its Yongbyon reactor by mid-April in return for energy aid and security guarantees. The breakthrough came at six party talks in Beijing between the two Koreas, the US, China, Japan and Russia. The countries are due to meet again on March 19 in Beijing to discuss progress on the deal.
