It has now been confirmed that one person has been killed and as many as eight people seriously injured in a high speed train derailment in Cumbria, northern England. 180 passengers were on board the nine carriage train. The train, belonging to Virgin Trains, was travelling from London to Glasgow when it derailed in a remote location near the village of Tebay. All nine carriages came off the track and several toppled down an embankment. As many as 13 ambulances and three helicopters ferried the injured to local hospitals. Rescue work continues.
