Airbus workers close ranks against job losses

Unions in France and Germany are demonstrating today two weeks ahead of a rescue plan for Airbus that many fear will lead to job losses. In Germany workers at Europe’s planemaker are protesting in several cities with full cross-party support, both national and local.

Rumours suggest most job losses may fall in Germany, where entire plants could close. Regional politicians complain Airbus’s core Franco-German alliance is now more rivalry than partnership. In France unions have united to try to influence the government to save their jobs. In an open letter they call on the state to buy out the leading private French shareholder, and pressure the ECB to weaken the Euro to boost exports.
