At least 150 people accused of being insurgents have been killed by NATO troops in Afghanistan. A ground and air operation was launched in the Birmal district of Paktika province. NATO claims those targeted had infiltrated Afghanistan from neighbouring Pakistan. It maintains the group had been what it calls “monitored and tracked”.

It has not said if there are casualties among NATO or Afghan troops.
