A protest has taken place against Russia’s ban on produce from Georgia. Dozens of Georgian trucks carrying mandarins are blocking a main highway that links Russia and the Trans-Caucasus republics. Some drivers have been at the border braving freezing temperatures for as long as 20 days.

However, it is understood Moscow is allowing produce to come over the border between Russia and Abkhazia, a breakaway region in the northwest of Georgia. For many of these workers, mandarins are their principal source of income, and they say they are determined to get across the border. Russia imposed a ban on fruit and vegetables from Georgia last year amid a souring of relations between the two countries.
