Twelve people have survived after their passenger plane plunged into a mountainous region of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi during heavy rain. However, the 90 other passengers on board the Adam Air Boeing 737 perished in the accident. The aircraft was on a flight from the Indonesian capital Jakarta to Manado in North Sulawesi via Java. It disappeared from radar screens while cruising at a height of ten thousand metres, an hour from its destination. Officials say the survivors are being transported to the nearby city of Makassar.
