Alexander Litvinenko’s wife Marina says her husband knew the consequences of speaking out against his former employers at the FSB, Russia’s secret police, but he apparently felt safe in England.

“You never can escape from (the) FSB and he was a person who started to speak openly about crime, about everything. I can’t say that it was these people who did it to him, but I am absolutely sure, they did not forgive him for what he did,” she said.

Marina Litvinenko is quoted in British newspaper “The Mail on Sunday” as saying her husband’s last words to her before he died of radiation poisoning were: “Marina, I love you so much.”

She adds that, until the last, she and her husband believed he would survive. Litvinenko’s widow claims she spoke out to clear his name after media reports suggested he was a shady character.

She asserts she has not yet been approached by Russian authorities but she would not help any investigation by Moscow into the poisoning, in any case. She does not believe it would reveal the truth, even if her husband’s killer was found.
