A new global trade union has been inaugurated in the Austrian capital of Vienna. Guy Ryder, who is likely to lead the organisation, said that the objective is to represent its 150 million members fairly and effectively.

“Our 19th World Congress yesterday decided to found with our friends in the World Confederation of Labour, the International Trades Union Confederation with the objective of assuring the most effective representation of the rights and interests of working people worldwide.”

The new organisation will be called the International Trades Union Confederation. It will represent workers in 156 countries.
