According to exit polls in Catalonia’s regional elections, the nationalist Convergence and Union party (CiU) has a lead over the local branch of Spain’s ruling socialists (PSC), the republican left (ERC) and other parties in the race for the 135-seat legislature.

A poll by Spanish broadcaster,TVE, which sampled two thousand one hundred people, showed CiU will win about 31 percent of the vote, the socialists approximately 26 percent and the republican left about 15 percent.

No one party is likely to win the 68 seats in Parliament they need to govern alone.

So the final shape of the assembly will take some time to decide as parties horse trade for coalition partners.
