There has been a high turnout in elections in Bosnia which are expected to determine whether the country can govern itself without international supervision. Voters are electing the 3 members of the Bosnian presidency, the president of the Serb entity and for parliament The international community is planning to withdraw its high representative in the country next year.

The complex political structure involving a Muslim- Croat Federation and a Serb Republic was set up at the Dayton agreement which ended the Bosnian war
eleven years ago.

Bosniak lpoliticians including opposition leader Haris Silajdzic want a more united central government.

Suleijman Tihic is the outgoing Muslim member of the presidency. His SDA party is tipped to win a leading place in the federal parliament.

On the Serb side, Milorad Dodik, prime minister of the Republika Srpska, described the election campaign as “politically mature and responsible.”
Dodik has been criticised for advocating a split from the Muslims and Croats .
