Campaigning is drawing to a close before Austria’s general elections on Sunday and pollsters are wary of predicting a result. With six groups having the potential to win seats in parliament, surveys are too close to call. The race for third place is between the environmentalist Greens and the far-right Freedom Party.

Centre left Social Democrats seem to be in second place, though they lost ground when a close ally was embroiled in a banking scandal. Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel is the favourite to win, although analysts say there may be a return to a grand coalition – of his party and the Social Democrats.
