It is being reported at least 14 British soldiers were killed when their aircraft crashed near Kandahar in south-eastern Afghanistan on Saturday. They were part of the NATO peacekeeping operation led by Britain in the region. Claims by the Taliban that they brought down the aircraft have not been confirmed. Initial reports from the British ministry of defence said the crash didn’t appear to be the result of hostile action but rather a “terrible accident”.
