German police in Munich have seized between 30 and 40 tons of meat passed its sell-by date destined for Kebab shops and cafes in the Bavarian capital.

The warehouse has been shut down.

It is suspected some of the meat, which was described as green and foul-smelling, had already been sold in and around Munich and further afield.

Peter Reichl from Munich police said documents seized show the company sold meat all over Germany.

It is the third time this year that police in Bavaria have discovered a large amount of meat passed its sell-by date.

In a seperate affair, a wholesaler in western Germany was charged with selling up to 400 tons of rotten meat and mislabelling products.
