Superman returns in Venice as Ben Affleck

world news

| |

If this year’s Venice film festival is remembered for one thing it could be the apparent resurgence of “film noir” detective stories. Allen Coulter’s “Hollywoodland” is the second such offering to hold its world premiere in the Italian city. The movie uses the mysterious death of 1950s Superman star George Reeves to examine the pitfalls of Hollywood fame. Ironically, it has been dubbed as a comeback of sorts for its star Ben Affleck after a string of critical and commercial flops. Early reactions suggest he may have rediscovered the recipe for success though he is sharing the spotlight with co-stars Diane Lane and Adrien Brody, who have been singled out for the strength of their performances.
