Nasrallah claims “victory” over Israel

world news

| |

Lebanese citizens listened last night to Hizbollah’s leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah declaring his group had won a “strategic and historic victory” over Israel. In a TV address, 12 hours after a ceasefire came into force, he said it was the wrong time to publicly talk about disarming the group. He also announced that from today Hizbollah will start repairing homes damaged by Israeli strikes. Nasrallah says his group will pay one year’s rent and the cost of furniture to every owner of about 15,000 destroyed homes.

He insisted Hizbollah was the only military force capable of defending Lebanon from Israel, but added it would lay down its arms only when Israel had withdrawn, and the Lebanese army and the UNIFIL peacekeepers were in place.
