As residents in Beirut woke up again to the sight of more smouldering buildings there is growing frustration over the pace of diplomatic efforts to bring about an end to the crisis. Many here are not surprised to read about reports of a rift between the United States and France, the two main sponsors of the resolution. “The Security Council should be able to implement a ceasefire,” one man says. “If they don’t who’s going to? They should pressure Israel because Israel is the aggressor.”

“The Security Council is biased towards the United States and the United States is biased towards Israel,” says another man. With the memorial for children who have died in the conflict constantly growing, many here share the same sentiments.
