Aid agencies say it is too dangerous to deliver food and medicine to villages in southern Lebanon. A ship loaded with Red Cross supplies from Cyprus has had to be rerouted from Tyre to Sidon because of heavy fighting. Supplies to the south have slowed to barely a trickle. Tyre port logistics coordinator Thierry Fournier said urgently-needed help is not getting through: “The road was bombed this morning. I was expecting some trucks to come this morning and go back this afternoon; it is not possible any more.”

A convoy of food, medical supplies and fuel bound for Tyre has been blocked after the last crossing over the Litani river – the main artery for aid to the southern port – was destroyed in an Israeli air strike. Relief workers plan to drive to a narrow point in the river and pass the supplies over by hand.
