Israeli offensive on Lebanon

world news

| |

The now week-long Israeli offensive against Lebanon is showing no sign of abating despite a flurry of diplomatic activity. More than 230 lives have been lost on the Lebanese side, at least 26 in Israel. Entire areas of the capital Beirut have been reduced to rubble. Much of the country’s infrastructure has been the target of Israeli missiles, including roads and bridges.

Several of the country’s strategic cities particularly those with harbours have been targeted, and the main road to Damascus has been destroyed. Water and oil reserves have also been badly damaged. A growing number of people are fleeing the conflict. Many fear a humanitarian crisis as tens of thousands have been displaced and the country is being isolated from both the land and the sea.
