It is day six of Israel’s onslaught on Lebanon. More than 40 people were killed across the country on Monday. Among the latest casualties were around a dozen civilians, reportedly killed in an air attack on their minibus, south of Beirut. Targets were struck nationwide, including homes belonging to members of Hezbollah, which again fired rockets deep into Israel. One destroyed a residential building in the city of Haifa.

The Israeli army denied reports that its ground forces are in southern Lebanon although a spokesman confirmed a small incursion overnight. And as the violence escalates and extends, the UN Security Council is to start working out the details of a multilateral force for Lebanon – an idea already dismissed by Israel.
