Authorities had “some” information an attack was coming, but the time and place was not known, according to India’s Interior Minister Shivraj Patil. Speaking on behalf of the country’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he said:
“The citizens of Mumbai have faced a similar trauma more than a decade ago. I am confident that the people of this great city have the will and courage to face the situation and will stand firm in their resolve to carry on their normal activities without succumbing to the threats of terror.”

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri said the blasts underlined the need for Pakistan and India to resolve their disputes. “Of course, we strongly condemn this and yes, there is the issue of terrorism which is plaguing the world.
“The government of Pakistan is doing its share,” he added. As she met the Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, there was condemnation too from the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. “We will stand with India on the war on terror. It simply shows that this kind of hideous incident can happen anywhere in the world against innocent people and so we stand with India in this time of need,” she said.
