The main political parties in the Czech Republic have been holding their final election rallies ahead of voting on Friday and Saturday.

After a fierce campaign featuring allegations of corruption, the opposition conservatives, the Civic Democrats, are slightly ahead in the opinion polls. The party’s leader, Mirek Topolonek, enjoyed a visit in March from the British Conservative leader David Cameron and former leader William Hague. Voters seem set to dump Prime Minister Jiri Paroubek. Observers say his centre left Social Democrats are being punished for government scandals, despite a good handling of the economy.
