People spent the night out of doors after the Indonesian earthquake damaged houses in central Java. The Red Cross says about 80 percent of homes in the town of Bantul collapsed in the tremor including the town’s hospital. Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his wife toured the stricken area and comforted victims as they tried to come to terms with the devastation. Hundreds of soldiers and rescuers were mobilized to help distribute emergency supplies including food and drinking water.
