Music industry launched more lawsuits against European illegal song-swappers

Faced with increasing losses, the European music industry says it is bringing more court cases against people accused of illegal file-sharing – that is swapping music tracks online.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry has announced it has started legal proceedings against a further 2,000 song-swappers in 10 countries. That brings the total to 5,500 in 18 countries. Those being targeted are “uploaders” who put illegally copied music on the internet. The British music industry says illegal file-sharing there has cost it more than 1.5 billion euros over the last three years. In Portugal, sales of CDs have fallen by 40% since 2002.
