The US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, faced further protest as she continued a tour of northern England, a guest of her British counterpart Jack Straw. She has been visiting Blackburn and Liverpool, with protesters following her around. Rice is in the UK on a reciprocal trip after Straw’s visit to her home state of Alabama in October.

While the stay has been heavy on photo opportunities, she did make one foreign policy speech. She said the US had probably made thousands of errors in Iraq but defended the overall strategy of removing Saddam Hussein. However, protesters on the streets of Blackburn have made it clear they disagree.
