The United States is to stay in charge of running the World Wide Web.The decision was made during the course of discussions at the first UN World Summit on the Information Society being held in Tunisia. Under the terms of the agreement, however, an international forum has been created. It will be the first of its kind and is aimed at tackling spam mail, viruses and cyber crime.

Delegates at the inaugural conference hope the newly created forum will mark the beginning of a process where poorer countries share the benefits of information technology enjoyed by richer, more developed countries.
