Dozens of people have been injured in a bull-running festival in Spain. The event, near Madrid, drew around 7,000 revellers onto the streets. Trouble flared at the entrance to the bullring. A massive pile-up developed, with bulls trampling over the mound of people. Over 60 of them were hurt, in the space of a minute and a half.

Two people were seriously wounded, needing emergency surgery. One of them, an 18-year-old youth, was gored in the face. The chaotic scenes took place at San Sebastian de los Reyes, 15 kilometres from the Spanish capital. The town holds a week-long festival every summer, much like the country’s most famous bull-running event in the northern town of Pamplona.
